No, it's not just a whim

So I told Melody this week that I want to buy a pet tiger. She wasn't enthusiastic.

No, seriously... this is not as obtuse as you might think. A few facts from Wikipedia:

"The Association of Zoos and Aquariums estimates that up to 12,000 tigers are being kept as private pets in the USA."

"Only nineteen states have banned private ownership of tigers, fifteen require only a license, and sixteen states have no regulations at all."

Doing a little bit of research, it looks like Utah (as one might expect) prohibits private ownership of tigers. However Idaho and Missouri, among other states of interest, only require the proper habitat and care, along with a federal license. And who better to hold such as license than yours truly, with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology? 'Nuff said.

So, with the logistics down, I found an interesting Website: buytigers.com. Sounds reputable. A female, 5-month old tiger is only $13,400. That might be a little pricey, but to make the deal a little sweeter they include an ivory collar, some tiger toys, and the original "Hello Tiger" guide.

I think I'm sold.

A tiger is still a cat, as far as I'm concerned. :)

I used to work with a guy that was serious about wanting a tiger too. Or any big cat, I think. But yeah. It's no big deal, apparently.

Supposedly when I lived in Utah as a child, there were these people who "used to have" an alligator. They had this big habitat thing set up in front of their house, so it could have been true....maybe.

I don't know how I feel about having a pet that could eat you. I mean think about it, people get big dogs and then that dog has distemper and viciously mauls and kills someone. Its happened, no joke. Now I still love dogs and intend on getting one someday, but imagine a tiger with distemper. I'm just saying, maybe you should check into that before you buy the tiger. Like carfax (catfax?). P.S. some lady came into my work, her name was Kat, she said we could remember her name if we remembered she hunted lions. She meant mountain lions but the first image that came to my mind were lions in Africa. I thought, "wow, how are you alive right now?"

I'm REALLY surprised that Melody doesn't want a tiger. A tiger is SUCH a practical pet! I'm sure that if you keep talking about it, it will grow on her. And with all that extra room in your new apartment, you'll have plenty of room!

I'm happy to have finally seen your blog!
